Ottawa, November 30, 2009

Bonnie Crombie Liberal MP and Crown Corporations critique and her Senior Advisor Lucio Durante met today with Leslie A Schous CPAA National President and Daniel L Maheux National Secretary Treasurer. On the agenda were; the Canadian Postal Service Charter, the Moratorium on Post Office closures, Bill C44 and the Report on the Strategic Review on Canada Post Corporation.

Both CPAA officers came out of the meeting very favourably impressed with Mrs Crombies' in-depth knowledge of the issues and the strong support for full access to postal service she offers to all rural Canadians and by extension to CPAA members. On the day of our meeting Mrs Crombie addressed the House of Commons on the issue. We invite you to read her speech, which is reproduced on the website.

As a follow up to the meeting, CPAA also provided Mrs Crombie with a list of Post Offices which were recently closed. In a least two of these cases, the Corporation had not followed the steps outlined in the Community Outreach program, which it committed to follow under the Canadian Postal Service Charter. These examples were also brought to the attention of Minister Merrifield.
